How it looks and fits

Retailer’s description: Stand out at your next occasion in this dress and jacket combination by Gina Bacconi. A classic shift dress made of soft crepe fabric is overlaid with a floral embroidered jacket. The jacket is fastened with a bow at the front, and a beautiful scallop edge makes for the perfect finishing touch. The dress underneath is fully lined and fastens using a concealed back zip.
Colour: Pink with some Red
Sizes: 8-22
Fabric. Dress is Polyester crepe with 3% Elastane. Lining and jacket 100% Polyester. Hand wash or dry clean.
Fit. I wore a size 14 which is my usual size. It fitted perfectly for this size. But it was too long for me. It could easily be shortened by a dressmaker as it has a straight hem. It draped very well as it is a heavier fabric than some other dresses I have tried. I would expect the lining to help avoid creases across the waist and hips after sitting down. The top fitted well and the waist was fitted but not too narrow.
Style details. It has a pretty scooped round neck both back and front with wide straps. This gives a young fresh look. The back has a concealed zipper which was easy to pull up. The overall shape is semi-fitted allowing slight extra ease at the waist which is needed by many older women. The jacket tied in a bow in front. It was semi-transparent which allowed my arms to be noticed but the embroidery successfully disguised my droopy upper arms. The sleeves come to about the elbow which makes short women look in proportion and avoids trailing cuffs at the wedding breakfast meal.

Colour: Potpourri Pink
This clutch has a crisp smart line with its shiny clip closer. Inside is a floral lining. There’s a chain that can be used or stored away out of sight. I like it in the other colours too and the pale blue would look great echoing the colour of a pair of mid-heeled blue shoes.
The John Lewis & Partners Jess fascinator would look stunning with this dress as it draws the eye up to the neck, face and head and away from the hips. The colour tones well with the dark pink embroidery of the jacket too.

Verdict
A beautiful dress that will suit many older women – as well as young! I loved the neckline and the translucent jacket. Excellent quality. Very pale pink so I would need a suntan. Elegance! Could see myself wearing the dress without the jacket at other summer events too.
