Whether you’re 19 or 90, a suede bag is this year’s must-have stylish accessory.
Suede works best in a transitional wardrobe. Spring and Fall are perfect seasons for adding a suede bag to your outfit. So whether you’re looking for a little purse or handbag for day or evening essentials or need a huge carry-all, take a look at the best new styles of suede bag available today.
I’ve scrolled through literally hundreds of suede bags and here’s my list of the best in 2025. I’ve included inexpensive bags that look great as well as more expensive numbers that will look fabulous and should last years – scroll down for care tips.
The large tote or shopper
Size matters! Very large, soft totes are definitely the French girl’s go-to. If French chic is your preferred style then you’ll be folding a large, soft tote under your arm even if only carrying your phone and credit cards!
But, of course, these big shoppers are essential if you carry around your laptop, a book (yes, I know it’s only us oldies who would even consider buying this non-virtual form of entertainment) or indeed, a change of clothes and a diaper when out with your grandkids.
The medium suede bag
For those of us who no longer schlep to work daily, a medium tote , bucket bag or largish shoulder bag are ideal for our life-style.
Look out for a good wide strap or handles and check out what interior pockets there are to keep money, cards, phone and everything else all nicely separate.
The smaller suede bag
This year we’re seeing some very chic little bags that will carry the basic essentials when you’re out for the evening. If sparkly accessories leave you cold then a small suede bag is for you. Very current. Lots of colors.
These small suede bags look great with a summer frock too especially if you choose a pastel color.
Caring for your suede
Use a small suede brush to remove dust and to help remove stains. A toothbrush works too, if you’re away from home.
Should you stain-proof suede? Yes, but you need a waterproofing spray made specifically for suede and nubuck. These sprays do not contain water. If you get caught in the rain with your beautiful suede bag, then dry away from heat and restore the pile with the brush.
Don’t stretch your new suede tote by over-filling or lugging heavy items – especially if it’s at the lower end of the price range. Less expensive bags often have less structure, no lining and not so many seams. The leather itself may also be thinner. None of these ‘drawbacks’ apply, of course, if you just carry the basics and fold the tote under your arm in cool style.
