It’s wedding season again!
If you’re looking for a beautiful outfit for that special day when your daughter, son or grandchild is getting married, then take a look at these stunning styles I’ve picked out for you.
I’m focussing on two of my favorite designers who both sell online all over the world.
What I like about Phase Eight
They understand the older silhouette and design clothes to make you look great whether you are US size 2 or US size 16.
Their clothes are seamed to give structure to the outfit.
They give lengths so you can know before ordering whether a dress or jacket will need altering to fit your height.
Their styles and colors are right up to date.
I’ve added links to the Phase Eight US site but just change the country (top right) if you’re based in the UK or elsewhere.
What I like about Gina Bacconi
10% off first order if you send them your email address – you can unsubscribe after you’ve purchased of course!
Most of their dresses have stretch so you’ll feel comfortable even in fitted outfits.
Many of their clothes can be handwashed.
Their dresses and pants drape beautifully.
Whilst many frocks look very lightweight, ones I have tried on all had linings which gave a good hang to the style.
Links to the Gina Bacconi outfits take you to the UK site so remember to change to the US or Australian site in the top right if you want to buy in local currency.
These links are affiliate links so if you click and buy I will likely receive a small commission at no cost to you. This helps me pay to host this website so thanks for your support!
I love the delicate color of this outfit. It’s lined and got stretch so despite being fitted it will not show creases easily after you’ve been sitting for a while. Just over the knee cap is a perfect length for many women over 50. And, hey, it’s washable!
Notice the clever seaming throughout the jacket and dress. The slight kick at the hem brings it right up to date. And a peplum jacket is my favorite way to make your hips look slimmer by comparison. This is a new color for Spring 2023 – Spearmint. Adorable and elegant at the same time.
No need to restrict yourself just to jackets in order to cover your arms. This classy frock has its own lightweight lace coat. How better to deal with a larger waist and hips? You’ll look taller and slimmer in this feminine outfit.
This cape is a smart method to add flow and movement to your dress whilst covering upper arms, tummy and minimizing your hips. No wonder I picked out this style.
Fluid drapey pull-on pants are comfortable and right on trend, whatever your age. Add the jersey ripple-fronted jacket over a sparkly camisole and you’ve got a beautiful outfit you’ll be able to wear for many events for years to come.
Beautifully feminine in antique rose and ivory, this modest long-sleeved outfit would be perfect for a summer or outdoor wedding. Just add earrings and a clutch purse and you’re spot on for 2023 style.
A heavenly floaty floor-length dress to take you from day to evening. The layers work wonders to disguise broader hips or a wider waist. I love the way the top layers covers the upper arms. And the diamante highlight on the demure V neck is just enough decoration to look elegant and not blingy.
OK, I admit it. I’m in love with this ankle-length fishtail-hem frock. It’s fully lined to give more structure while the delicate top layer gives it an ethereal femininity. The sleeves are a lovely way to disguise older arms yet not add the heaviness of a jacket.
This stunning floor-length dress works wonders for heavier hips with its ruched draped side panel. Add the cute bolero jacket if you don’t want to show your upper arms but still want to look super-elegant. This gorgeous outfit will look just as wonderful at a formal evening event at Christmas as it will to a summer wedding.
Spoiled for choice with your thoughtful collection. Information re length, size appreciated as no boutiques within hundred kms in my rural area. Most purchases are made online.
Hi Cimmie. Hope you find your ideal outfit! Joni x
Hi Joni! Hope all is well there! We are only getting wind and temperatures going up and down from the atmospheric rivers you may have heard were devastating California. I am in Southern Colorado so all is good here.
Love all of the choices you brought to me. I am unable to go to the last wedding of my grandchildren. My grandson is getting married on March 23 in Sedona, Arizona. I am unable to travel so I am daydreaming about these beautiful clothes. Love the tiered navy blue dress, all of the pants outfits and the cute jumpsuit. They would all hide my clunky shoes I have to wear. These would fit my 78 year old disabled self. This is something clothing designers rarely think of. Most would work and are much appreciated. Until next time, Joni.
Hi Sydney. What a pity to have to miss that wedding. Well, we can dream… can’t we!! Joni x
Some very pretty choices. I wish they used models with figures more like the average 65+ woman, these would all look great on my daughter or future DIL. Unfortunately, I don’t think most would work for me. I had a mastectomy w/o reconstruction 35 years ago so most of the dresses are too low cut and I carry excess weight around my midsection and all the dresses look fitted around the waist. I like the flowy pants best with a different top. Thank you for the ideas.
Hi Isabelle. I totally agree that retailers are really missing out on us older women. I actually started this blog when I looked for a dress for my daughter’s wedding (thus the immother name) and found it offensive to be expected to pay hundreds when all the images were of young women who were more likely to be brides than mothers of the bride. I’ve always been a feminist and now I’m an ageist too! Almost all frocks for MOB are fitted but I know these designers and have tried on their outfits so I know that the stretch works really well at the waist. Plus I’ve picked styles where the actual waistline is camouflaged. But I know what you mean. This blog gets around half a million views a month from women who think the same! Surely it’s time retailers woke up to our buying power when presented with something modelled by an older woman with lower bust, thicker waist and possibly wider hips. Ah well…one day! Joni x
These are beautiful for the mother of the bride/groom. I loved my dress for my daughters wedding. However it was sleeveless. Anyone of these dresses would have solved that issue. Great finds!
Hi Debra. Glad you liked the styles. Joni x
